About Us

Welcome to Hijabis At Work, where we aim to empower hijab-wearing women and create a more inclusive workforce. Founded by DEI strategist and keynote speaker Hanan Challouki, our platform is the bridge that connects talented hijab-wearing women with forward-thinking employers who celebrate diversity.

Our Story

As the academic year of 2023 began, the question that echoed in Hanan Challouki’s mailbox was, “Do you know where I can intern while wearing a hijab?” Unfortunately, many companies and organizations still do not embrace the freedom of choice regarding religious attire in the workplace. This lack of inclusivity posed a formidable challenge for students who wished to pursue their career dreams while honoring their beliefs, often resulting in countless rejections and diminishing self-confidence.

Our journey began with a simple post on LinkedIn, inquiring which companies welcomed students wearing a hijab and which fields of study were relevant for internships in such inclusive workplaces. This post resonated with 200,000 people and garnered over 1,000 heartfelt reactions. The overwhelming response from the community spurred Hanan Challouki into action.

Meet Our Founder: Hanan Challouki

Our driving force behind Hijabis At Work, is Hanan Challouki. Born in 1992, Hanan holds a Master’s in Strategic Communication from the University of Antwerp. Her passion for the creative industry matched her astonishment at its lack of diversity. Fuelled by a mission to build a more inclusive society, she embarked on a path toward entrepreneurship.

With a steadfast vision for marketing and communication in an increasingly diverse world, Hanan won over esteemed clients such as Brussels Airport, Telenet, Google, and Netflix. A crowning achievement was earning a spot on Forbes’ prestigious 30 Under 30 list for her innovative strategies.

In 2020, during the first lockdown, Hanan launched the “Wat Zij Wil” podcast, featuring inspiring female entrepreneurs. The experience was so enriching that it led to the second season in early 2021. That same year, she introduced the “All Things Inclusive” podcast, dedicated to sharing knowledge and expertise related to diversity and inclusion.

But she didn’t stop there. Committed to her mission of making inclusion a top priority for everyone, Hanan established her own agency, Inclusified, providing strategic support to organizations eager to embrace diversity and inclusivity.
Her dedication to the cause extended to serving as an Independent Board Member at Flanders Investment & Trade and becoming the Belgian Association of Marketing vice president. And, as if all of this wasn’t impressive enough, she authored her first book, “Inclusive Communication” (Pelckmans), in 2021—an actual labor of love.

After becoming a mother, Hanan penned her second book, “Imposter Moeder,” a heartfelt exploration of the challenges faced during the first year of motherhood. And now, she has added another chapter to her remarkable journey, creating Hijabis At Work.
